I take this opportunity to thank President Hakainde Hichilema for giving me an opportunity to represent him at the #WorldEconomicForum in Davos, Switzerland, which ran from Monday 16th January 2023 and ended last night.
My delegation and I leave Davos for home with a sense of satisfaction due to the quality of engagements we have had at the event and the encouraging responses that we obtained from prospective investors, especially in renewable energy and mining sectors. Once actualised, we are optimistic that jobs and growth will be boosted.
After a week of information exchange among government leaders, private sector players and civil society, we return to Zambia with renewed insights into the international perspectives on navigating the economy in a Covid era, climate change interventions, and our role in stepping-up food production to feed ourselves, feed Africa and help mitigate the global food deficit occasioned by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
We are glad that we are on course and aligned with global interventions on tackling challenges of the Covid-19 and climate change. We return home with renewed optimism and encouragement for the steps already taken to begin the process of converting our mineral endowments into value-added resources for the manufacture of electric vehicles and other machinery which run on renewable energy.
