Economic Management

The role of the Economic Management Department (EMD) is to put in place or design a macroeconomic policy framework that would facilitate sustainable economic growth and stability. In this regard, EMD is responsible for the development of effective monetary and fiscal policies that would guide domestic resource mobilization, as well as Government medium and long-term expenditure. Furthermore, the Department is also mandated to spearhead economic monitoring and analysis in consultation with national financial institutions and other government agencies. It is also responsible for undertaking and coordinating external financial resource mobilization.

The key result areas are as follows:

1. Managing and coordinating effectively the formulation, implementation and review of macroeconomic policies in order to facilitate economic growth and macroeconomic stability.
2. Managing the timely development of economic models and undertaking of economic analysis and forecasting in order to facilitate identification of appropriate policy measures and evidence-based decision making
3. Managing timely and effectively the development and update of the country’s macroeconomic framework in order to guide the formulation and implementation of the medium-term expenditure frameworks.
4. Managing and coordinating effectively the development and implementation of the financial and banking sector policies in order to guide the sectors growth and stability.
5. Managing timely the conduct of socio-economic research and production of policy briefs, ministerial and economic performance reports in order to provide information and facilitate decision making.
6. Managing timely and effectively the coordination of consultations and negotiations with international and regional institutions on financial and economic affairs in order to ensure consistency between domestic and international economic policies and targets.
7. Coordinating the signing of grant agreements with cooperating partners in order to support the mobilization of resources for development
